How does our 3D Vectra Scan work?

Our 3D Vectra Scan is a tool for the early detection of skin cancer. It uses the Vectra WB360 machine that captures 92 pictures in 3 seconds to render a 3D avatar of your body. This 3D body image scanner allows healthcare professionals to examine your skin from different angles and zoom in on moles.

3D body imaging scans compared at regular intervals help to track changes in your skin, evaluate the effectiveness of skincare treatments and identify early signs of skin cancer, including melanoma, basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma.

Changes to look out for include the appearance of new moles or changes in the size, shape, or colour of existing moles. Your chances of surviving melanoma and other types of skin cancers are determined by how deep it has grown, using a measurement called the Breslow Thickness. Because Vectra is the most accurate early skin cancer detection technology available, it’s the ideal system for identifying what is or isn’t a melanoma, and how serious the situation is. Vectra’s computer analysis helps healthcare providers compare changes in your moles over time to determine whether you have any developing skin cancer.

The 3D Skin Cancer Scan should be used as a complementary full skin check to routine clinical examination. It’s important to remember that only a qualified healthcare provider can make a definitive diagnosis of skin cancer. 3D Skin Cancer Scan FAQs

Like all methods of skin examination, 3D skin imaging technology has limitations. The 3D Skin Scan may not capture hidden sites where melanoma can occur, such as the scalp or genital area. Sometimes melanoma in its earliest stages can resemble benign skin spots and be missed during a full-body examination. On the other hand, a harmless spot may be identified as concerning, leading to unnecessary testing and worry. It’s important to remember that our full-body skin check should be used as a complementary tool to routine clinical examination.

If you have a seizure disorder or are very sensitive to flashing lights, speak with your healthcare provider before undergoing the 3D Skin Scan. Your doctor can help determine whether it’s safe for you to undergo the 3D body image scanner or suggest an alternative method.

To prepare for your full-body scan for cancer and to ensure clear and helpful images, we encourage you to:

Avoid laser hair removal for at least one month before your session, as it can create artefacts and interfere with the accuracy of the scan.
Refrain from using fake tan for 2-4 weeks prior to your session, as it can affect the colour and pigment of the skin, potentially hindering the accuracy of the scan. Make sure your skin is clean on the day of your session to eliminate any substances or residues that may interfere with the scan. We also recommend removing any nail polish for the same reason.
Avoid applying makeup or cream to your skin on the day of your session, as they can create a barrier on the skin’s surface and affect the outcome of the scan.
Wear appropriate underwear during the session to ensure your comfort and to maximise the skin area recorded.

When you arrive at our skin cancer clinic, you will first be greeted by our staff, who will show you to your designated room. Here, you will find a disposable bathrobe, underwear, and slippers provided for your use. We will ask you to remove all your clothing, including your face mask, makeup, jewellery, and anything else that covers your skin.

You will also be requested to move your hair away from your neck, face, and ears. If needed, we will provide you with a disposable hair band or cap. While we recommend getting fully undressed under the bathrobe for optimal scanning, it’s completely all right if you’re not comfortable with that. We prioritise your comfort and safety during the examination, and we will accommodate your preferences to ensure maximum comfort.

You can choose to get fully undressed, wear the disposable underwear provided, or wear your own underwear. There will be a wardrobe available in your exam room where you can safely store your belongings. Our aim is to create a comfortable and welcoming environment for your 3D Skin Scan. If you have any specific concerns or requirements, please let our staff know and we will do our best to accommodate them.

Once you are ready, you will step into the 3D Skin Scanner, which will take a 3D image of your entire body. This part of the process only takes 3 seconds, and once it’s over, you are free to re-dress.

A 3D body imaging skin scan provides a comprehensive and highly detailed assessment of your skin, enabling the early detection of changes that might not be apparent in a traditional visual full skin check.
